40 in colour
A visual crisis
I started my photography journey some twenty years ago. Over that time, 99% of images were black and white. Due to film stock, defaulting a digital camera into BW or using one with a monochrome sensor. I saw the world in black and white.
Twenty years on, crossing a milestone in life, I’ve decided its time for a change.
From October 17th 2025, for 365 days, I will add a single photo everyday, taken the day before. All images will be in colour and taken with a ~40mm lens.
A record of my life as it happens. Posting this particular letter a month into the project, some patterns have emerged. With two children, my week day involves a commute to school, the world around my home office and the odd errand. While the weekends tend to be packed with child led adventure.
Beyond the chaos of home, other themes have already started to develop. Reflecting my position as an outsider in Southern Africa. I intend to post each new image as a note and as other bodies of work coalesce, to write more on them.
Whilst my main vehicle for artistic expression is the camera, I don’t define myself as a photographer. Rather as a curious mind in a chaotic world. As such, I think about, and plan to write about, a wider array of topics.
The complete project will end up on my website, you can follow along there and I will be posting the daily photo on here under notes
Best,
